Dear Patchogue Community
Resident,
Having read Elisabeth McGuire’s
acceptance speech, which
appeared on patchoguepatch.com
on January 10th, we feel it is
necessary to respond to her
comments and ask that you
consider the following points.
• Mrs. McGuire neglects to
mention that the Mayor and
Trustees, including her running
mate Trustee McGiff, voted for a
salary increase. In addition,
the Mayor’s salary with the Town
of Brookhaven was part-time, not
full-time as she incorrectly
states.
• Mrs. McGuire intends to “stop”
the development of New Village
at the Four Corners. She has
proven it by being a party to a
lawsuit against Patchogue
Village aimed at overturning a
legal vote of approval by the
Board of Trustees. The
continuing lawsuit could cost
you, the taxpayer, tens of
thousands of dollars. Mrs.
McGuire also served as a trustee
in the administration that
created the blight on the Four
Corners, and she was voted out
of office in 2000. She had no
plan for the Four Corners then
and no plan now.
• Mrs. McGuire’s professional
experience has not qualified or
prepared her to serve as your
mayor as she claims. In fact,
her job in New York City keeps
her away from the Village Monday
through Friday from early in the
morning until 7:30 at night.
When will she do the business of
the Village? How much time can
she commit to the job of leading
the effort of economic
development,
revitalization of our Village
and improving your quality of
life?
• Mrs. McGuire speaks of
integrity even after she and her
husband, Village Justice
Christopher McGuire, trademarked
the Patchogue First political
organization’s name and logo in
2006 without discussing it with
any officers or loyal supporters
of the organization.
Furthermore, Mrs. McGuire,
Trustee McGiff and other
individuals followed suit by
incorporating the organization
and making themselves officers.
• Mrs. McGuire proposes to have
an open government with weekend
hours. She will have no choice
but to do it on weekends since
much of her time during normal
business days will be spent more
than 50 miles away in New York
City or on a train commuting to
and from work. So, if you have a
problem on Tuesday, you may not
hear back from her until
Saturday or Sunday.
• Mrs. McGuire’s attack on the
Patchogue Theatre for the
Performing Arts is insulting to
the dedicated men and women who
serve on its Board of Directors,
the staff and especially the
volunteers. Despite her negative
charges, the theatre was
recently voted as the “Best of
Long Island 2012” in the Local
Live Theater category by readers
of the Long Island Press. Last
year the theatre was in use over
200 days; attracted more than
140,000 people to our village;
and received it’s most favorable
internal audit to date.
• Mrs. McGuire says she will cut
the mayor’s salary, which would
only be fitting since she will
be spending significantly less
time doing the Village’s
business than our current mayor.
Based on her current work
schedule, she should reduce it
to nearly zero dollars because
that is closer to the amount of
time she will have to dedicate
to the residents of this
community.
• Mrs. McGuire claims that
services have been cut while
taxes rose, which is grossly
inaccurate. Many departments
have increased service
efficiencies that have saved the
taxpayer money, and in 2011, the
Village ended the year under
budget by over $200,000;
strengthened our vital surplus
and maintained a strong Moody’s
A1 bond rating.
• Mrs. McGuire accuses our code
enforcement officers of
selective enforcement, which is
not true. Her complaints against
the Department of Public Safety
and the performance of its
officers should also be directed
to her running mate, Trustee
McGiff, who served as the
Commissioner of Public Safety
for the past eight years.
Thank you for taking the time to
read our letter, and we ask that
on Election Day you cast your
vote for Mayor Paul Pontieri and
the Patchogue 2012 Team. We are
proud of our accomplishments,
committed to the revitalization
of Patchogue Village and will
continue to stand firm on a
platform of progress without
politics. We look forward to
meeting with you as we walk
door-to-door this campaign
season. Lenibh euguercilisl ing
