|
Infrastructure Improvements and
Environmental Protection |
|
These projects
represent over $12.2 million
dollars in public grants and $3
million dollars in private
investment. |
|
- Reconstruction and lighting of
North Ocean Avenue at no cost to
the Village taxpayer. Mayor
Pontieri secured a $1.4 million
dollar grant from Congressman
Tim Bishop and a $500,000 grant
through Town Councilman Tim
Mazzei. |
|
- Paved many roads in the
Village including Rider Avenue,
Cedar Avenue, Jennings Avenue,
Gilbert Street and South Summit
Avenue just to name a few. Also
improved many sidewalks
throughout the village to
protect residents and especially
children with our Sidewalks to
School program. |
|
- Road raising, paving and
installation of drainage with
filters on Laurel Street and
Argyle Lane to mitigate flooding
and decrease the run-off into
the Patchogue River. This
project was funded through a
$500,000 New York State grant. |
|
- Installed new fuel pumps at
the Department of Public Works
to comply with the new health
standards imposed by Suffolk
County. A $300,000 project, it
was funded through a New York
State grant secured by former
Senator Foley. |
|
- We reconstructed and upgraded
the wastewater treatment plant
from a chlorine - based method
to an ultraviolet method of
purifying the sewage at no cost
to the resident taxpayer. An $11
million dollar construction
project, it was funded through
$5.5 million dollars in federal
stimulus funds and $1.7 million
dollars in New York State DEC
grants; and the remainder will
come from low interest (2%)
loans from the Environmental
Facilities Corp. |
|
- Sewer lines have been
installed on both sides of the
Patchogue River for over $3
million dollars, paid for by the
owners of Bay Village Condos on
South Ocean Avenue and the River
View Condos on River Avenue.
With support from Brookhaven
Town Supervisor Mark Lesko and
Councilman Tim Mazzei, the Town
of Brookhaven paid $1.5 million
dollars to extend the sewer
lines to the Sandspit Marina. |
|
- The Patchogue River was
dredged for the first time in
over 40 years. Most of the more
than $1 million dollar cost for
the project was funded by
$600,000 in New York State
grants and through
inter-municipal agreements
between the Village, the County
and the Town. |
|
- Carried out an aggressive
program of installing filters in
our storm water drains to
prevent pollutants from entering
the Patchogue River and Great
South Bay. |
|
- We reconstructed the
Roe/Library Walkway and began
work on the Patchogue Theatre
Walkway with grants totaling
over $200,000 from Suffolk
County. |
